History of South Metro Democratic Women

GFDW (Georgia Federation of Democratic Women) formed in South Fulton County a new chapter titled South Metro Democratic Women’s Council (SMDWC) in September of 2014.

On September 13, 2014, South Metro Democratic Women was Chartered with Georgia Federation of Democratic Women.  On September 17, 2014,  South Metro Democratic Women was registered with the Democratic Party of Georgia.


The founding members are as listed:

• GFDW Liaison and Board Advisor: Kathy Adams
• Chairwoman: Cassandra Jackson
• Vice Chairwoman: Melissa Floyd
• Treasurer: Helen Willis
• Secretary: Keona Jones

Kathy Adams, Deana Holiday-Ingraham, Shalonda Hubbard, Sara Henderson met in summer of 2013 to discuss the inception and value of a Democratic women's chapter in South Fulton County. They strategized, defined service areas, and drafted bylaws. Life got in the way and the organization and establishment of the chapter was tabled.
 
In the spring of 2014 Kathy Adams identified Cassandra Jackson, Melissa Floyd, Helen Willis, and Keona Jones. Together they worked to move the establishment and chartering of SMDWC forward.

Ongoing work continued, and in the fall of 2014 the bylaws were finalized, adopted on 9/13/14, and the chapter was then chartered under Georgia Federation of Democratic Women. Following, on 9/17/14 the chapter was registered with the Democratic Party of Georgia.
 
The following South Fulton citizens were identified and elected to serve in the inaugural leadership capacities leveraging their talents; Cassandra Jackson served as Chair, Melissa Floyd served as Vice Chair, Helen Willis served as Treasurer, and Keona Jones served as Secretary.

In January of 2015 Melissa Floyd was elected as the second presiding president of South Metro Democratic Women's Council. All the days forward, the following leaders moved the organization forward.
